Putting Feet on The Ground
IIt’s been over a decade since I’ve taken a trip overseas that required this much time just to get there—it’s a journey in every sense of the word.
Ski and I decided to arrive a little early in Nairobi so we could acclimate before the conference and we’re both really glad we did.
There’s a unique feeling that comes after a trip like this—something that’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it. I woke up today in this time zone feeling like my feet weren’t quite touching the ground yet. Almost as if I were floating somewhere between one world and another. It’s a feeling of - you’re here… fully here… and yet not quite. Everything you see, everything you touch—even the ground beneath your feet—doesn’t feel completely solid. Almost like your body hasn’t fully caught up to the reality around you.
Of course, there’s a simple name for it:
Jet Lag
But even in that fog, there’s something quietly beautiful about the transition. A reminder that you’ve been carried far from the familiar into something new.
It’s 10pm here and Ski and I are both well rested. And well too! The staff is taking good care of us.
We had the chance to walk the conference grounds today, and they’re beautiful. Peaceful, welcoming, full of anticipation. We’ve already begun meeting some of the people who will be leading over the next few days.
As always, I’ve made myself available wherever worship help is needed. From experience, I find that there’s always a need to be filled, always a place to serve. so we’ll see what happens.
I’ve also taken some time today to watch the live feed of the Artemis moon mission. The astronauts have completed an orbit around the moon and are now making their way back to Earth.
What an adventure!
It takes real faith to step into a mission like that—not knowing exactly how everything will unfold, trusting the process.
And in a very different, but deeply connected way, that’s what this journey feels like too.
As we follow the paths God has us on, we don’t always know what’s coming next—but as children of God, as followers of Christ, we trust Him to direct every step, that He walks with us through every unknown, and that His purposes will be fulfilled in and through us.
Exciting!!
Ski and I send our love. We’re grateful to be here, and we can’t wait to share more with you in the days ahead.
