4th Day of Conference
Day four of the conference was full in the best way. Classes, breakout sessions, and yes… more African worship. That worship was… ELECTRIC!!
Imagine forming a conga line and dancing around the room while singing about Jesus in Swahili. Yeah!… we did that!
Wooooo!!
If only I could store some of that electricity and bring it back home—man, worship would explode! What a great time in Jesus!
As I’ve shared earlier this week, the theme has been bearing fruit. Not just talking about it, but living it. Scripture names the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is the life we’re called to reflect as we shine as a light in the world (Matthew 5:14–16).
While talking about how we grow, one person shared a silly joke in our breakout session:
What did the man get when he planted a lightbulb?
Answer: A power plant. Ha!
Of course, if you want something to be powered, you don’t plant it. If you want a light to shine, you don’t bury it. You have to plug it into a power source.
And that’s true for us too.
The Bible says that our power source, as Christians, is the Holy Spirit. In growing and bearing fruit, we can try to be more patient, try to be more loving, try as hard as we can to live all of that out. But if we’re not connected to our power source, no fruit will grow and our light will be dim at best.
And… we also need to be fed.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 4:4 that we don’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from God. His Word nourishes us. It keeps us rooted and thriving.
So it’s both.
We are fed by the Word.
We are powered by the Spirit.
And as we stay connected, fruit begins to grow—not forced, not manufactured, not by our own effort, but as the natural result of a life plugged in. And BAM! A light in the darkness!
As I mentioned in previous blogs, it’s been so good to gather with other believers, to hear their stories, and to grow stronger together. The best!!
Tomorrow, the conference ends, and Ski and I will do some more sightseeing. I’m looking forward to the adventures and what God will teach and remind us of along the way.
More to come!
